GOODYEAR AUTOGALA 2008 – YET ANOTHER EFFORT BY GOODYEAR TO PROMOTE MOTORSPORTS IN MALAYSIA

Goodyear provides a platform for youths to showcase motorsports skills

Madam

SHAH ALAM, 5 March 2008 — Goodyear Malaysia Berhad staged the Goodyear AutoGala 2008 in partnership with the International Islamic University, Malaysia. The event, held over the weekend of 26 January and 27 January 2008, comprising competitions for popular street racing activities — drift, drag, auto kana and as well as an exhibition of kit-up cars.

The event attracted more that 170 amateur drivers, mainly made up of local drift enthusiasts.  Goodyear’s Drift Team and its motorsports partner, Angle D5, managed the full coordination and successful implementation of the event. Held on the grounds of International Islamic University’s main campus in Gombak, it attracted over 6,000 spectators made up of car enthusiasts and drift fans from the Klang Valley and beyond.

The university grounds, adorned in Goodyear colours, was set alive by the sound of revved up engines, screeching tyres tested to the limit and cheering crowds. Competitions at both novice and expert categories took centre stage at the event. Goodyear Malaysia’s leading drift racer, Ser Ming Hui, a renowned personality and trainer known for his remarkable drifting skills and showmanship, was on hand to provide guidance and inspiration to aspiring drivers amongst the youth.

"The affordability and accessibility of motorsports such as drift  is providing a constructive outlet for the Malaysian youth to channel their energy, creativity and talent. Goodyear will continue to stage such events to provide a platform to identify young talent and nurture interest and skills amongst the youth,” said Law Kwan Thean, Marketing Director of Goodyear Marketing and Sales Sdn Bhd.

Drift demonstrations held on both days by the Goodyear Drift Team were a show stealer. The drift drivers left spectators in awe as they ”slided” their kit-up rear wheel-drive vehicles in daring twists and turns across the makeshift track.

"Competitive sport requires precision driving and is conducted at speeds and in ways that require tyres to perform under extreme pressure.  Goodyear has a range of ultra high performance tyres such as the very popular Eagle Revspec which provide drift racers and car enthusiasts alike the ultimate ’ performance-driven’ experience,” added Law, who later gave away prizes to the winners.
