GOODYEAR SERVITEKAR COMES FORWARD TO EMPOWER SINGLE MOTHERS AND THEIR CHILDREN
As a responsible social citizen, Goodyear Malaysia, through its network of Goodyear Servitekar automotive centres, has come forward to organize the "Together We Care" Charity Dinner, in aid of the Yayasan Nanyang Press, the country's first philanthropic media foundation.
The Charity Dinner on 29th July 2006 at the Mines Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur received overwhelming response with more than 2300 guests attending the event as well as sponsorships from many companies. Funds generated from this event will be in aid of the foundationĄ¯s programmes, focusing on:
- Empowerment workshops, skills training, counselling and support groups for single mothers. It is estimated that there are 600,000 single mothers nationwide who suffer from financial and emotional problems, which also affect their children.
- Human development initiatives and programmes for under-privileged children
The charitable project will certainly help to alleviate the problems faced by the single mothers and their children, and bond the nation towards the strengthening of the families as part of the social community.
GOODYEAR MALAYSIA COMES FORWARD TO HELP DISTRESSED EMPLOYEE BUILD NEW HOME AFTER FIRE.
Taking initiative in the spirit of social responsibility and employee welfare, Goodyear Malaysia has come forward to the assistance of Joanese George who lost his home to a fire early this year. The single parent of three children aged between 5 to 8 years old has been a Goodyear employee since 1982. During his working hours, his children are cared for in a nearby community centre in Kota Kinabalu.
When news of the fire broke out, employees of Goodyear rallied behind their colleague and jointly contributed RM2260 to help him tide over in addition to an initial relief fund of RM2000 provided by the company. This together with the support of the colleagues based in the Kota Kinabalu office
In addition, Goodyear has agreed to help Joanese build a new basic home for his family. The house is now ready and Joanese will receive RM9663.20 for the construction cost. With this, the family can look forward to a proper roof over their heads, and most importantly, a home to shelter the family and rebuild their lives after the tragedy.
